NATO has always said that Georgia will become an alliance member and that we will make that decision ourselves, "- NATO Secretary General"s Special Representative for South Caucasus and Central Asia James Appathurai said.

He responded to the Russian president"s statement, where Putin said that if Georgia or Ukraine join NATO, Russia"s reaction would be "extremely negative."

Appathurai said that the Alliance continues to recognize that Georgia will become a NATO member.

"It is neither in our nor Georgia`s interest that georgia be in the middle of the two forces. I want the decision of the Bucharest Summit and Georgia"s ambition to be satisfied. This should happen in the political context, " said James Appathurai.
