Elections of the new mayors in five municipalities of Georgia will be expected to be held in May 2019.
These are municipalities that have been left without mayors a year and a half after the municipal elections. These include Zugdidi, Marneuli, Chiatura, Khulo and Zestaponi.
Zugdidi Mayor Lasha Gogia is charged with corruption. The Mayor of Marneuli Temur Abazov is accused of criminal and inhuman treatment committed against a citizen. Chiatura mayor"s resignation was preceded by confrontation between City Hall, City Council and police officers in one of the restaurants where the investigation began under the article of violence.The Mayor of Khulo Gocha Meladze left the post soon after resignation of the Chairman of the Government of the Ajara Autonomous Republic, Zurab Pataridze. The reason behind the resignation of Zestaponi Mayor Kakhaber Makhatadze is unclear., however, the citizens accused him of corruption .
