"Anti-state," "damaging to the country" - Opposition assesses statement of head of general staff

Who was the Georgian side fighting against in the occupied regions 30 years ago? Politicians consider damaging to the country and misinterpretation of the history mentioning the conflicts in Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region in 1990s as internal civil war. The statement made by the head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces yesterday was perceived by the part of the opposition as anti-state  and they urge the government to react to the issue.
"Hopefully this was just a linguistic error, and not expressed opinion, it means that our fight against Tskhinvali and Abkhazia was the fight with ourselves and not with the external enemy Russia and this means that we are not well aware of the dangers we are facing, "- said the" National Movement "member, Giorgi Baramidze.
"European Georgia" considers Chachibaia"s statement to be harmful to the country and it is directed towards Russia"s interests.
"Such a statement from the officials is damaging for the country because it was a conflict in Tskhinvali, and it was a conflict in Abkhazia and it was Russian aggression in 2008. It is misinterpretation of the history in the Russian intersts, "- Kapanadze said.
The statement made by the head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces is called anti-governmental by Davit Zourabichvili of the Republican Party of Georgia, He stated that Chachibaia made a political statement in his address yesterday, which is beyond his authority.
Speaking at the event dedicated to the anniversary of the Armed Forces of Georgia, Vladimir Chachibaia said that Georgia has had 4 wars in the last 28 years, including 3 civil and 1 large-scale aggression from Russia.
