The former MIA minister commented on possible appointment of Shengeli Pitskhelauri as deputy head of the State Security Service. According to Giorgi Baramidze, the appointment of KGB personnel is only in Russia"s interest.
Baramidze says that Bidzina Ivanishvili"s interests are not the security of the country and he only fights for his own power.
"We have a sad reality in the country which we all knew it and this is another confirmation that Bidzina Ivanishvili does not care about the state security, but he cares for retaining the power. It is noteworthy that the old KGB figure is appointed to one of the key positions.This is what Russia needs, "Baramidze said.
Former head of the Security Ministry, Shengeli Pitskhelauri, confirmed to Rustavi 2 TV yesterday that he might be appointed as the deputy head of the state security service. He also confirmed that his son Nikoloz Pitskhelauri is Bera Ivanishvili"s brother in law.
Pitskhelauri began to work in special services in 1976. Finally, he was the Head of Investigation Service of the Security Ministry, when Shevardnadze"s Security Service entered Rustavi 2. Pitskhelauri was released from special services in 2003. Shengeli Pitskhelauri says he is currently an advisor to the Interior Minister Giorgi Gakharia, although Gakharia`s deputy says he does not know him at all.According to the entrepreneurial registry, Shengeli Pitskhelauri registered a company called "Oligarch" in 2005.
