Family members of prisoner Avtandil Sopromadze plan to hold a protest rally outside the Penitentiary Department. They are going to gather at 16:00 today. The main requirement is to transfer the prisoner to another penitentiary establishment.
Avtandil Sopromadze has inflicted self-injuries in Rustavi Establishment No. 6. Family members said that their protest was caused also by a restriction of communication with the prisoner. Family members say they do not have the opportunity to visit or contact him by phone. Members of Avtandil Sopromadze"s family accuse certain people of intimidation.
"Pressure is against Avto. It is degrading treatment from the senior officials ,Shota Trapaidze and his deputies. I will not stop, we are going to hold a rally in Tbilisi, we have been fighting for it and we brought the Dream to stop such things fro happening. I have a demand to stop such pressure and such degrading treatment, "says Irma Sutidze, mother of Avtandil Sopromadze.
In Rustavi, in Penitentiary Establishment No. 6, 29-year-old prisoner has inflicted self injury with scissors in the stomach. According to the current information, the incident happened a few days ago and the prisoner refuses to be treated.
According to the lawyers, Avtandil Sopromadze protests in this form against intimidation, humiliating and inhuman treatment by the prison administration.The prisoner pays the sentence for attempted theft and the purchase and storage of narcotic substances. He has been sentenced to 7 years and has to leave the prison in a few months.
