UNESCO has named Tbilisi as the Capital of the World Book 2021.

According to the UNESCO Director-General, the decision was made on the basis of the recommendation of the World Book Capital Advisory Committee. The slogan of the program is "And your next book is ..?"

According to UNESCO, the program includes several important activities. As part of the program, libraries will be opened, a book festival will be held for children, digital projects will be presented to transform books into games and to restore Georgia"s first publishing house. The purpose of the events is to promote reading and make books accessible to all social groups.

"I am pleased that from April 23, 2021, the status that UNESCO has given us will be granted the title of “World Book Capital" in one year. This will give us many opportunities. Our Georgian poets and writers will have the opportunity to participate in various events”, - said Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze.
