Pence and Pompeo to meet with Erdogan

Despite earlier reports to the contrary, Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo are expected to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday to discuss the situation in Syria.

US politicians hope to reach an agreement with Ankara over a military operation on the Turkish-Syrian border.

The USA has been calling on Erdogan for several days to stop military operations in Syria. Trump has also imposed economic sanctions on Turkey. Nevertheless, Erdogan says he has no plans to cease fire in Syria.
