Russian Foreign Minister met with US President and Secretary of State

Sergei Lavrov met with Donald Trump and the Secretary of State Mike Pompeo over the fate of an American detained in Russia and over U.S. conclusions of Kremlin meddling in the 2016 U.S. election.

At a news conference, Pompeo and Lavrov both called for an improvement in U.S.-Russia relations, while stipulating that the two governments disagree on an array of issues. Chief among them was election meddling, an issue on which they pointedly disagreed during a news conference.

American intelligence agencies have concluded the Kremlin conducted an interference campaign seeking to benefit Trump. Pompeo said the U.S. has provided ample evidence of Russian interference in the 2016 election. Lavrov said there is “no proof”. To build confidence, he proposed making public confidential correspondence between the two governments.
