A police officer has reportedly been wounded in the vicinity of Batumi Plaza Mall.

He had two wounds in the neck and was operated on shortly after the incident. 

The incident took place when the patrol police stopped a vehicle. The officer was first involved in a verbal altercation with the driver and later wounded by him. Shortly after the incident, he was hospitalized.

His condition is severe but stable, doctors say, adding that the patient is on conscious. 

The man who attacked the policeman was detained at the scene. 

The investigation into the incident is underway. The offender has reportedly been apprehended by the victim"s police partner.
