Institution of Media Ombudsman - different opinions in the majority and opposition

Political spectrum assesses the initiative, to create an institution of Media Ombudsman. The parliamentary opposition does not see the necessity of establishing the institution and say that in the conditions where there is no political will, neither the media ombudsman can guarantee the independence of media.

 

"The main problem that Georgia has today is the attitude of the Georgian Dream, which does not want to have any media that the government can not control. "Said Giorgi Kandelaki, member of the European Georgia

 

The statement was made by the deputy chairperson of the parliamentary faction United national movement - Salome Samadashvili.

 

"Georgia has a legislative framework that protects media liberties and if there will be a political will of the government, protection of media rights and media pluralism in our country would not be problematic,"- Salome Samadashvili said.

 

Representatives of the parliamentary majority have different opinion. They say that it is important to have a tool, which will be a competent institution.
