Selection of Candidates for position of Strasbourg Judge - Commission Members deny biased attitudes

Seven potential candidates for the position of Strasbourg Court Judge have been interviewed. The third stage of the competition has been held in the Ministry of Justice since morning. Tea Tsulukiani was heading the interviewing commission.

Giorgi Papuashvili withdrew his candidacy from competition due to lack of objectivity and transparency. Critical statements were heard from the lawyer Davit Jandieri, but he has gone through the interview today.

Jandieri noted that the representatives of the ruling team at the commission were asking him whether he was going to be an agent of any political party. He also criticized some members of the commission.

Other applicants did not have any doubts about the objectivity of the Commission.

The Public Defender explained that the members of the commission were positive towards the candidates. He noted that most of the questions were about the professional experience of candidates, although there were exceptions.

First deputy chairperson of parliament of Georgia notes that opponents are trying to damage the image of the competition, which is unacceptable for her. Tamar Chugoshvili said that the main task is to send a good list to the Strasbourg Court.

Interview with the candidates will continue in the Ministry of Justice tomorrow. The commission will select 5 out of 23 potential candidates to present to the government. The list of the selected 3 candidates will be later sent to the Strasbourg Court.
