Local elections - Opposition and ruling team`s accusations against President

The President has marked the date of the election on the political calendar but he has not officially name it yet. Giorgi Margvelashvili warned political parties about the probable date, but said that that he would issued the order only 60 days before the elections under the agreement with the government.

The opposition has criticized the president`s statement today. They say Giorgi Margvelashvili missed the last chance.

Now, the "Georgian Dream" will change the electoral code in an accelerated manner and after the amendments the president will not have the right to nominate the date of the election 60 days before the voting procedure.

The sooner the election day is appointed, the more the ruling party loses the chances of using administrative resources because pre-election restrictions come into force.

Taking into consideration these facts, the opposition says that this time the president has given in to the "Georgian Dream".

The ruling team team does not share the opposition`s standpoint.

The "Georgian dream" claims the president took into consideration the interests of other political parties in determining the date of elections.

Mayor of Tbilisi thinks that the Georgian dream will not have any real rivals.

Four months are left before elections. As of today, election campaign will start from September.
