Constitutional amendment process that is currently underway is not acceptable

Before departure from Georgia, Rebecca Harmes European Parliament member and co-chair of the Euronest assessed the constitutional project in Georgia.

According to her, the changes in the current edition are unacceptable. According to hher, it would be much easier if the country would move to a proportionate system in the elections.

The European Parliament memberconsiders that the legislative body of the country should take more responsibility in the process of work.

"In the process that aims to change the constitution, it should always be involved not only the parliamentary opposition but the civil society as well. I and my colleagues from the European Parliament once again noted that the constitutional amendment process, which is currently underway, is not acceptable. The Government of Georgia and Parliament should take care of the involvement of various stakeholders. It would be easier for me to support constitutional amendments in Georgia if your country would totally move on to the proportional system of elections, "- said Rebecca Harms.
