The preliminary conclusion of the Venice Commission on constitutional amendments is known. The Chairman of the Parliament received an hour ago the document, which was awaited for several months, received .

According to Irakli Kobakhidze, the preliminary conclusion of the Venice Commission is positive and the commission members evaluated the changes in the constitution positively. Speaker of Parliament of Georgia held a special briefing and briefed journalists on several details of the document.

"The report says that the proportional electoral system with a 5% electoral threshold which will come into force after the next parliamentary elections is fully compatible with legal standards and this is an important step forward, the step that has not been implemented by any government yet. The Venice Commission does not have any remarks regarding such principle issues as the rule of election of the president, the status and powers of the President, abolishment of the Security Council and sorting out defense issues. The conclusion states that the broad consensus on constitutional reform is unfortunately not achieved, but the role of both parties is highlighted. Here we are talking about the ruling party and the minority. We can once again note that parliamentary or non-parliamentary opposition has done nothing for the Consensus, "-said Irakli Kobakhidze.
