"One-party, oligarchic constitution" - opposition criticizes government

The opposition speaks about the constitutional amendments and says that the ruling party creates a one-party constitution. Opposition members say that this constitution will not have political legitimacy.

"One-party, oligarchic constitution can not function as a public constitution. It will be a constitution that will not have political legitimacy. It is adopted by one force, hence it reflects the interests of a handful of people and their master `s oligarch Ivanishvili"s interests, "- said Nika Rurua, a member of the National Movement.

According to the parliamentary opposition, the governing team ignored the position of the Venice Commission.

"Our government ignored the position of the Venice Commission, the position of the Georgian political spectrum, the position of the civil society and refuses to ask via plebicite the opinioon of the Georgian people on disputed issues," -said Giga Bokeria, a member of the "European Georgia".

The preliminary conclusion of the Venice Commission on constitutional amendments is known. The Chairman of the Parliament received an hour ago the document, which has been awaited for several months.

Irakli Kobakhidze states that the Venice Commission`s preliminary conclusion is positive and the commission members evaluated the changes in the constitution positively.
