Political Persecution and Deteriorating Democratic Processes - Opposition Introduces Internal Political Processes to Delegation of the Council of Europe


The delegation of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly continues their visit to Georgia. At this moment the members of the Monitoring Committee are in the Parliament, meeting with members of United National Movement.

According to the party leaders, the meeting will focus on constitutional amendments, elections and political arrests.

Salome Samadashvili says that it is planned to speak about the kidnapping of Azeri journalist from the territory of Georgia and the Public Defender"s Institute.

Members of "European Georgia" have discussed the deterioration of the democratic situation in the country at the meeting with European lawmakers.

"The interest of the co-rapporteurs of the Council of Europe is the situation in democracy in Georgia and the regress that takes place in the country," said Giorgi Kandelaki.

Members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe have already met with Vice Speaker of Parliament - Tamar Chugoshvili. Meetings with the President, the Minister of Justice and the Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ministers, Opposition and Civil Sector are scheduled as well.
