Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili vetoes the law on public broadcasting. The President made a statement about veto on the briefing.
"Of course I would like to welcome the step forward to European standards, but it is not described in the law. Therefore, today we return the law on Public Broadcaster to the parliament with these two main motivated notes. I hope the Parliament will analyze the veto presented by us and will make a decision that will maintain media pluralism and healthy competition in the direction of public funds and transparent spending, "Margvelashvili said.
According to Giorgi Margvelashvili he vetoed the law on the public broadcaster due to two important issues. According to the president, the issue of media advertising is not adequate as the public broadcaster has the privilege of being funded from the budget, which affects other companies in the market. The president named the issue of procurement as the second problematic issue.
