Interdepartmental commission discusses election environment

The incident that took place in the village of Karaleti of Gori district in Eastern Georgia on July 12, 2012 was discussed at the meeting of the interdepartmental commission held at the state chancellery today.
Representatives of the National Movement, the ruling party of Georgia proposed a new initiative on creating a special declaration for avoiding violence and vote-buying during the upcoming parliamentary elections due in October.
The declaration is supposed to be drafted within the nearest days and sent to various parties for signing.
The agreement achieved by members of the commission and representatives of the political opposition also stipulates attendance of law enforcers at the meeting of political parties with people within the ongoing election campaigns.
Representatives of NGOs and international organizations attended the meeting of the interdepartmental meeting.
The commission`s main purpose is to assist creating democratic and transparent environment for the upcoming elections in Georgia.
On June 12, 2012 an incident took place in the village of Karaleti. Verbal insults between the activists of the political party ’’Georgian Dream’’ and their opponents escalated into the clashes. Several people were injured. 5 people were detained by the police today for participating in the incident.
