Brazilian National Museum destroyed by fire

Brazilian National Museum was burned in Rio de Janeiro. The fire broke out at the 200-year-old building late after the closure and spread on all floors.

Rescue teams are still working on the ground.

An information about the exact damage and the cause of the fire are not yet known.

More than 20 million exhibits were kept at the National Museums of Brazil, including the 12,000-year-old skeleton and dinosaur bones found on the American continent.

"The destruction of the building, once a palace for emperors that had fallen into disrepair, was an “incalculable loss for Brazil,” President Michel Temer said in a statement.
