We made a decision regarding the accession of Ukraine and Georgia at the 2008 NATO summit, since then we have significantly strengthened our partnership with Georgia and Ukraine - Jens Stoltenberg

We made a decision regarding the accession of Ukraine and Georgia at the 2008 NATO summit. First of all, I welcome that since then we have significantly strengthened our partnership with Georgia and Ukraine. Such a statement made today NATO Secretary General.

“Since 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea, NATO allies have provided a lot of assistance to Ukraine, which is why the Ukrainian armed forces are much better trained, equipped and larger than they were in 2014, and this is largely due to the help which they received from NATO allies.

I expect that the foreign ministers will confirm at the meetings held today and tomorrow that the NATO door is open. We will show that Bucharest"s decision that the NATO door is open is fulfilled not only by words, but also by action.

We have announced that Ukraine would become a member of NATO, and I expect that the allies will confirm this, but now the main focus is on helping Ukraine.

Now the war is on, and we must not do anything to undermine the unity of our allies to provide military, humanitarian and financial aid to Ukraine, because we must prevent President Putin from winning and we must ensure that Ukraine wins as a sovereign, independent country”, - said Jens Stoltenberg.
