Service members received apartments from the state on Mount Makhata

Service members received apartments from the state on Mount Makhata. The lats were awarded to them based on the principle of a lottery machine.

The unprecedented, large-scale apartment construction project on Mount Makhata, which was launched on the initiative of Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili in October 2020, was designed to improve living conditions for officers and was implemented within the scope of the policy of caring for service members.

Seven 39-story apartment buildings with 1,029 apartments were built for service members on Mount Makhata. Service members were able to purchase apartments on unprecedented, concessional terms, depending on the family size: 50 m2 (2-3 members), 80 m2 (4 members), and 110 m2 (5 or more members). The price of a square meter of the living space was 200 USD. Accordingly, service members paid about 100 USD per m2. To pay this amount, they were able to use unprecedented in-house financing excluding bank guarantees.

The project will continue. To this end, amendments were made to the Defense Code, as a result of which personnel ranked major and above will receive apartments of the master sergeant and above category, which will be an absolutely unprecedented decision toward appreciating service members, one that will significantly improve their living conditions.
