We need to consider how to use the tools at our disposal to protect fundamental rights. Such a statement made the Senator James Risch, a member of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, at a hearing on the “Magnitsky Act” in the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
“We should always think about how to improve the implementation of the Magnitsky Act in the most effective ways. Over the past week, the Georgian government has been taking brutal measures against pro-EU demonstrations, and we must consider how to use the tools at our disposal to protect fundamental rights and maintain an environment in which people can freely and fairly decide their future”, - said James Risch.
He thanked Senator Jeanne Shaheen for organizing the phone call with Salome Zourabichvili and expressed hope for progress.
