I would like to call on all foreign actors to recognize the will of the Georgian people, democracy. Today, Georgia is also a test for the European Union. We have to see if the EU will be able to pass this test. Such a comment made today the Speaker of the Parliament, thus responding to the appeal of French President Emmanuel Macron to the Georgian people.
“The opposition has 61 mandates in the Parliament of Georgia. Elections were held on October 26, and the political field was overloaded with it. Everyone has received his weight of support that he has in society and everyone should recognize democracy. Therefore, the resource of dialogue or the space of political battles and debates is the Parliament, so all political forces should be allowed to accept these 61 mandates, enter the Parliament, and here is exactly the arena, stage and platform where the political debate should take place.
Here is exactly the place for dialogue, any other space for dialogue is political radicalism. I also want to call on all foreign actors to recognize democracy. Today, Georgia is also a test for the EU. It remains to be seen whether the EU can pass this test that it is committed to democratic values and the sovereignty of the people of other countries. The EU is passing this test today.
Unfortunately, we can see from some representatives that for them democracy means following the will of the people in their own country, and in another country it means bending their will to the people of other countries. Therefore, my appeal to everyone is to recognize the will of the Georgian people, to recognize democracy, this is a test for the EU, will it remain loyal to democratic values or will it choose the path that some countries take, including our northern neighborhood, which tries to impose its own will on other peoples and follows non-democratic ones? but the way of democracy managed in other countries.
We have seen some pseudo-Europeans arriving these days, and with their hearts and values they are still Soviet citizens, who are trying to determine what kind of government should be in Georgia with their own political agenda, and not in such a way that the will of the Georgian people is the determining factor for them. The only call that needs to be heard from true Europeans is a call for the 4 parties to take their own mandate and carry out the will of their voters inside the walls of Parliament. In the parliamentary republic, politics is done inside the walls of legislature”, - said Shalva Papuashvili.
