Deputy Justice Ministers meet with the CoE Human Rights Commissioner

Deputy Ministers of Justice Beka Dzamashvili and Niko Tatulashvili met with the Council of Europe Human Rights Commissioner Michael O’ Flaherty.

During the meeting parties discussed “effective cooperation” between the Ministry of Justice and Council of Europe institutions in areas such as implementing Strasbourg Court decisions, crime prevention and probation, sentence execution, combating trafficking, drug policy, etc.

Attention was focused on the sharp decline in cases against Georgia in the European Court of Human Rights and achievements in protecting prisoners’ rights within Georgia’s penitentiary system.

As the Ministry said, they will “continue intensive work within its competence, in line with the Georgia-Council of Europe 2024-2027 Action Plan”.
