I have extended my gratitude to Hungary for its unwavering and intact support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, European future of Georgia - Papuashvili

I am delighted to visit Hungary accompanied by the Parliamentary delegation. It is the first official visit of the Parliament of the 11th Term. It is noteworthy that the visit is served in the country, which demonstrates intact support to Georgia”, - Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament stated at the joint briefing with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary, László Kövér.

“His Excellency first visited Georgia in 2023, and I am pleased to reciprocate with a visit today, which demonstrates the evolution of our parliamentary relations. I highly value the opportunity to visit Hungary during this geopolitically uncertain period, when the world grapples with numerous political and security challenges. In this turbulent environment, further cooperation between the friendly nations, such as Georgia and Hungary, assumes paramount importance. At the meeting, I expressed my gratitude to Hungary for its unwavering and intact support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and the European future of Georgia”, - said Papuashvili.

Per his assessment, the friendship between the countries is rooted in centuries, is based on common European values that derive from our strong Christian heritage.

“In recent years, we have taken effective steps in developing our bilateral relations, progressing our ties to the strategic partnership level, which are beneficial for our countries and nations. The Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán was the first leader visiting Georgia following the Parliamentary Elections in October 2024 in evidence of intact friendship and mutual support of our countries.

During the meeting, my counterpart and I reached an agreement to consolidate our engagement in parliamentary matters. Today, we concluded the Frame Agreement on Cooperation between the two legislative bodies. I am confident that this document will serve as a solid foundation for even more productive inter-parliamentary dialogue and the exchange of experiences. We strongly endorse the continued exchange of information between parliamentary administrations, sector Committees, Friendship Groups”, - added the Speaker.

As he emphasized, the discourse also encompassed cooperation within the European political platforms.

“During the meeting, I provided an overview of the EU membership plans for Georgia and underscored the aspiration that Georgia aims to fulfill 90% of the Association Agreement commitments by 2028. The Agreement we concluded today, envisioning the achievement of substantial outcomes, serves as a cornerstone for the continuation of the legislative and institutional convergence with the EU. I extend my gratitude to Hungary for their commitment to rendering their assistance to us in this process. Your experience is extremely beneficial for us and we are grateful for your warm hospitality in the National Assembly. We highly appreciate each step that Hungary takes and each statement made that is oriented to support Georgia. We are committed to enhancing our strategic partnership”, - said Shalva Papuashvili.
