The leader of the parliamentary majority, Mamuka Mdinaradze, announced that the ruling party will introduce a draft law that will be a verbatim copy of the current US Foreign Agents Registration Act [FARA] legislation.

“As you know, the new United States administration has acknowledged that the American funding has been used to support unrest and revolutions in various countries, including Georgia.

In 2024 the Parliament passed a milder version of FARA, which we have not yet fully implemented. However, despite its enactment, several dozen of the wealthiest NGOs receiving foreign funding have not even registered in the registry. Therefore, instead of that version, we will adopt the new American law, an exact copy of its current edition, and ensure its full implementation”, - said Mamuka Mdinaradze.

He also revealed that the Government would establish a fund to finance public organization initiatives, requiring amendments to the Grants law: “Public organizations that wish to promote Georgian interests, rather than foreign influences in our country, will be able to receive grant funding from the Georgian government”.

As Mamuka Mdinaradze stated, Government will take a firm stance against foreign meddling in Georgia’s internal affairs: “We promise society that the more pressure, coercion, blackmail, and attempts to infringe on Georgia’s independence, create unrest and chaos in our country, the more severe response will be – continuing through legal and political measures to prevent all of this. We are committed to ensuring that our country will never again be subjected to blackmail, our institutions will be strong, and no one will ever dare to interfere in Georgia’s internal affairs, violate its independence, or disrespect the decisions of the Georgian people”.

When asked if the Transparency Law would be repealed, Mamuka Mdinaradze answered: “Yes, after its adoption… Let’s leave the details aside. Will it concern lobbying? Will it be about lobbying or not? – It will not be. Whatever the American law concerns will be exactly copied and initiated”.
