Parliament endorsing Draft Law on Grants in I reading

The Parliament passed the bill amending the Law of Georgia on Grants in the first reading with 85 votes. The legislative amendment, initiated by the government, was presented at the plenary session by the government’s parliamentary secretary.

According to Vakhtang Bachiashvili, the bill grants the right to issue grants to a public legal entity designated by the Georgian government, whose chartered purpose will be to support civil society organizations.

He explained that the amendment stems from the government’s objective, outlined in the governmental program, to ensure support for civic initiatives. As Vakhtang Bachiashvili noted, to support these civic initiatives, the state budget has allocated 20 million GEL for the current year.

During the session, members of Parliament shared their opinions on the legislative changes and assessed the Prime Minister’s initiative as a positive and significant reform. The bill is being reviewed under an expedited procedure.
