
The Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee heard the activity report for 2024 of the Legal Aid Service, introduced by the Director, David Simonia.
According to him, the Service has been operating 18 Bureaus, 42 advisory centers and 1 mobile advisory center during 2024; during the reporting period, the Service has admitted 21 512 cases, rendered up to 30000 consultations and composed 2629 legal documents.
“Based on the number of received cases, the largest category was criminal cases, comprising 14,369. Civil cases accounted for 4,892, and administrative cases for 2,251”, - he elucidated.
Per his information, the number of the cases defending beneficiaries under the Juvenile Justice Code constituted 1864, and the number of cases under the Child Code - 2016. The legal aid was rendered to 1925 pensioners, 519 persons with disabilities, 536 IDPs, 326 representatives of ethnic minorities, and 160 foreign citizens.
As the reporter noted, within the public awareness campaigns, 12 meetings were held concerning the violence against women and domestic violence, 20 offsite meetings were held with ethnic minorities, and 16 meetings in schools concerning the rights of children. The Committee gave a positive assessment of the report.
