Parliament of Georgia approves bill requiring Government consent for donor grants

The Parliament of Georgia has urgently adopted a legislative package [unanimously by 80 MPs] in its 3rd reading, restricting the activities of international donor organizations in Georgia.

Under the new law, foreign grants can no longer be issued without prior approval from the Government or an authorized representative.

Violations will result in fines amounting to double the grant’s value, and the Anti-Corruption Bureau will oversee compliance.

The legislation also bans international organizations from holding lectures, seminars, or similar public events in support of political parties.
