
Within the framework of border-quarantine control, violations were detected by the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance.
In particular, vehicles loaded with frozen chicken imported from Germany and Egypt and sweet potatoes [batata] were stopped at the customs checkpoint.
Inspections revealed that 70% of the sweet potatoes were unfit for human consumption.
Besides, laboratory testing of samples taken from 27,000 kg of frozen chicken detected Salmonella, a pathogenic microorganism.
Per Resolution №463 of the Government of Georgia [September 20, 2019], the frozen chicken was returned to the exporting countries.
