Ministry of Education issues statement regarding teaching Chinese language in schools

Ministry of Education issues statement regarding teaching Chinese language in schools.

“For public information, we announce that according to the National Curriculum, the first foreign language, which is mandatory for all pupils and is taught from first through 12th grade, is English.

The 2nd foreign language begins in the 5th grade and can be any language that the pupil/parent chooses. Schools are required to offer a choice of at least two foreign languages.

Currently, school students have the opportunity to choose French, German, Italian, Turkish, and other languages.

At this stage, the Chinese language is taught as an additional language in 15 schools. Since demand for learning Chinese is growing, work will begin on creating appropriate standards in collaboration with Tbilisi State University’s Department of Sinology. Our goal is to offer students diverse choices”, - reads the statement of the agency.
