Natia Turnava met with the Governor of the Central Bank of Türkiye, Fatih Karahan

Natia Turnava, Governor of the National Bank of Georgia [NBG], met with Fatih Karahan, Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye, during the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in the United States.

The meeting also included Ekaterine Galdava, Vice Governor of the NBG, and Aleksandre Khazaradze, Head of the Financial Markets Department.

Discussions centered on enhancing cooperation in payment systems and financial technologies. Both parties explored opportunities to deepen institutional collaboration and improve information exchange, focusing on monetary policy frameworks, payment systems, and financial sector supervision.

The central bank leaders shared their respective countries" experiences in developing supervisory approaches and payment infrastructures. Particular attention was given to Türkiye"s implementation of an instant payment system and the adoption of a QR code standard.

To further this collaboration, it was agreed that representatives from the Central Bank of Türkiye will visit the NBG in the near future to share expertise and insights.
