Georgia firmly supports the peace-building process in the South Caucasus, we are ready to deepen regional cooperation in every respect. Such a statement the President of Georgia made at the joint press-briefing with his Armenian counterpart.
“I am honoured to undertake my 1st official visit to Armenia as President of Georgia. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional hospitality I have received. During my meeting with my counterpart, I was pleased to note that despite the challenging geopolitical circumstances worldwide, we continue to strengthen our close political, economic, and people-to-people ties.
Georgia and Armenia have established exemplary bilateral cooperation across numerous domains. In 2024 we signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement, which further confirms our strong friendship and opens the door for deeper and more comprehensive cooperation in all areas. Armenia ranks among Georgia’s top trading partners, we welcome a significant number of visitors from Armenia each year, consistently placing within the top three in this regard.
I reaffirmed to my colleague Georgia’s unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia. It is in Georgia’s best interest to see Armenia stable, successful, and progressing. I want to personally thank you and the people of Armenia for your steadfast support of Georgia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-recognition policy.
During our meeting, we discussed the regional situation and the challenges facing Georgia. Our stated objective is to promote peace and stability through a policy of peaceful conflict resolution, which is grounded in the de-occupation of two regions of Georgia by Russia and the reconciliation and engagement of communities divided by the occupation line.
In today’s rapidly changing geopolitical landscape, establishing stability and peace in the region has become increasingly vital. Georgia warmly welcomes Armenia and Azerbaijan’s announcement regarding the completion of negotiations on the terms of a peace agreement on March 13, 2025. We view this as the start of an important process demanding further collective efforts to foster a peaceful, secure, stable, and developed South Caucasus region. We are optimistic that Armenia and Azerbaijan will soon sign a peace agreement, thus advancing the positive trajectory of development in the South Caucasus and enhancing the region’s appeal.
We also discussed the trilateral meeting held in Tbilisi on April 17, 2025, which symbolizes the beginning of mutually beneficial cooperation among the South Caucasus nations. Georgia is committed to supporting peace and stability in the region and stands ready to deepen regional cooperation in all directions, contributing to the formation of a just and peaceful multipolar international order.
I am delighted that the Days of Georgian Culture will take place in Yerevan from June 5 to 7 this year, and we look forward to hosting the Days of Armenian Culture in Tbilisi next year. This will showcase the rich heritage, traditions, and contemporary achievements of Armenian culture.
Respecting and preserving the unique traditions and histories of our countries are the fundamental values that unite our people. Safeguarding state sovereignty, national identity, and cultural heritage is a top priority for both our nations. Our exemplary centuries-old friendship and strategic partnership provide a solid foundation for advancing this unique relationship.
Mr. President, esteemed colleague, allow me to express my sincere gratitude for your incredibly warm hospitality. I take this opportunity to invite you to pay an official visit to Georgia at your convenience”, - said Mikheil Kavelashvili.
