President of Georgia, accompanied by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, congratulated WWII veterans on May 9, Victory Day.

Mikheil Kavelashvili laid a wreath at the memorial of the Meliton Kantaria Monument in the Culture and Recreation [Kikvidze] Park of Veterans.

"Georgians played a significant role in shaping this pivotal moment. I express my deepest respect to our hero veterans and honour the memory of fellow patriots who sacrificed their lives in World War II for freedom and peace", - said the President.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Allied victory over fascism in World War II.
