Shalva Papuashvili meets with the PACE President

Speaker of the Georgian Parliament held a meeting with the PACE President, Theodoros Rousopoulos. Shalva Papuashvili provided an analysis of the current situation in Georgia and reviewed the preparations being made for the upcoming Municipal Elections.

The parties engaged in a discussion regarding the current absence of Georgia’s representation in the PACE through the Delegation. At this juncture, Shalva Papuashvili drew attention to the Resolution adopted by the PACE in January, urging the Members of Parliament to withdraw from the Delegation. The Speaker underlined that Georgia remains loyal to the key principles and values of the Council of Europe.

As he pointed out, respecting the people’s choice is a fundamental pillar of democracy, and its disregard is unacceptable. The parties expressed their commitment to continuing the constructive dialogue. The meeting was held in Budapest, Hungary, within the framework of the Conference of Speakers of the EU Parliaments.

The Georgian Delegation is composed of Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, and Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the EU Integration Committee.
