The Interim Fact-Finding Commission on the Activities of the Regime, the Political Leaders of the Regime of 2003-2012 and the Activity of the Incumbent and Former Officials in the Political Unions since 2003 up to today heard Nana Kadagishvili reporting on the violation of her family’s rights.
According to the reporter, in July 2004, her husband and son were apprehended with a purported money-laundering charge at “Gama Bank.” Subsequently, she was also detained due to her efforts to gather evidence of her family members’ innocence.
Amiran Kadagishvili, her husband, was included on the “Black List” of the National Movement after he declined the request of the National Movement representative, Givi Targamadze, to provide funding for the revolution approximately two to three months prior to the Rose Revolution.
According to her account, following the National Movement’s acquisition of authority, her husband, subjected to intense pressure, was compelled to engage the lawyers of Dato Saakashvili, the brother of the then-President Mikheil Saakashvili, at Gama Bank. In 2004, following the raid conducted by the Prosecutor’s Office on Gama Bank, the institution was subjected to liquidation within a two-year timeframe.
The reporter provided comprehensive details regarding the dire conditions prevailing in the so-called Module Premise, including the prisons and prison hospitals. She also presented the facts of physical assault perpetrated against her husband and son.
As she observed, the individuals referred to as “thieves in law” were placed in the same cell as her husband and son, who had been transferred from various prisons. These individuals began to demand money from Amiran Kadagishvili, threatening to kill his son. Consequently, Amiran Kadagishvili was subjected to severe treatment, resulting in a fractured skull.
According to Nana Kadagishvili, her son was diagnosed with hepatitis B while incarcerated, which ultimately led to his death upon his release. She also provided information about the property deprived from her family. As she observed, following the refusal to withdraw the claim from the Strasbourg Court, the sole apartment they had as a residence was subsequently forfeited and delegated to the cell custodian of Gldani Prison, with a symbolic compensation of GEL 1.
According to the reporter, the authorities’ interest in her family was profound, to the extent that the son of the judge presiding over the case was even detained.
“Your presence at the sitting demonstrates your unwavering commitment to safeguarding our nation against the resurgence of adversaries. We express our profound gratitude for your valiant efforts and extend our best wishes for the successful completion of the over 160 volumes amassed in the Prosecutor’s Office, which will undoubtedly be of immense benefit to you”, - Tea Tsulukiani, Chairperson of the Commission, addressed Nana Kadagishvili.
