What we went through on May 26, which was a premeditated, planned operation, I call it a massacre - Nona Gaprindashvili

At the parliamentary temporary investigative commission is discussing the gross facts of human rights violations during the dispersal of the May 26, 2011 protest rally.

The chess player Nona Gaprindashvili speaks about the events of May 26 and states that no one could have imagined something like this.

"What we went through on May 26, which was a premeditated operation, they wanted to punish us, I call it a massacre because what happened there, no one could have imagined. Many rallies have been held, starting from April 9, but nothing like this has happened at any of them.

There were three cordons around us that day and no exit was left. April 9, I mentioned this horror because they were chasing those people, but they had a way to escape and they didn`t have one here. In all the rallies that we have held, whether in the regions or in Tbilisi, there has not been a single violation at any of the rallies. Those of us who were on stage were the ones who spoke. We told what was happening - torture, beatings, arrests, there were many such situations. We were just speaking and people were coming there", - said Nona Gaprindashvili.
