Parliament of Georgia starts discussions the initiative to abolish the Special Investigation Service [SIS].

Today, May 23, the legislative package will be reviewed by the Legal Affairs and the Defense and Security Committees.

The amendments were prepared by MPs from the Georgian Dream. According to the draft law they initiated, the Law on the SIS will be declared null and void. Consequently, the SIS, along with the positions of its head, first deputy, and deputy, will be abolished.

The draft also stipulates that the individuals holding these positions, as well as the agency`s employees, must be provided with financial compensation.

According to the bill, criminal cases that previously fell under the jurisdiction of the Special Investigation Service will be transferred to the investigative jurisdiction of the Prosecutor`s Office. The changes affect 20 laws in total.
