As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities, carried out by the representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, in May of the current year, criminal prosecution was initiated against 16 persons, on the facts of misappropriation of a large amount of state property by deceit, by manufacturing and using forged documents.

Investigation determined that, during the years 2017–2021, the accused persons, by using forged documents, fraudulently registered 12 land plots with a total area of 21 632 m2 in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region. Total market value of these land plots exceeds GEL 800 000.

During the investigation, illegally acquired land plots were freezed. Relevant legal procedures are being held in order to return them to the state ownership.

Investigation is underway under the Articles 362 and 180 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisage imprisonment from 6 to 9 years.
