British Embassy [BE] failed to disclose which organizations it funded in Georgia prior to the 2024 elections and the amounts of current funding, writes Speaker of the Georgian parliament on his Facebook page.
“To better understand the situation, it’s worth recalling that the BE once described the NGO Georgia’s Future Academy - linked to Gia Japaridze, number 5 on the National Movement party list - as an objective election observer, stating: “We want to fund them - what does this have to do with supporting extremism?”
It has now been a week since I requested the BE to disclose which organizations it funded prior to the 2024 elections and the amounts of current funding. However, in apparent violation of the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness and the Georgia–United Kingdom Strategic Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, the BE has not provided this information to the Georgian public.
Funding propaganda and extremist activity in another country constitutes a breach of international law”, - writes Shalva Papuashvili.
