Georgia is a brave, long-standing ally of the United States, and its population absolutely supports a strong relationship with the West. US Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) made this statement following the U.S. House of Representatives’ passage of the Countering China’s Control of the Caucasus Act.
The bipartisan legislation - co-sponsored with Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) - requires the U.S. State Department and intelligence agencies to submit a classified report regarding Russian and Chinese influence in Georgia.
Following the House of Representatives, the document will now move to the Senate, where a vote is to be held.
«Georgia is a brave, long-standing ally of the US, and its population absolutely supports a strong relationship with the West. The Countering China’s Control of the Caucasus Act ensures that Chinese and Russian covert operations in the country are exposed, and the United States will strictly review whether Georgia should remain a major recipient of assistance», - said Joe Wilson.
