The impression is that this is unfair electoral system - Giorgi Margvelashvili

President of Georgia- Giorgi Margvelashvili says that electoral system envisaged by the new draft constitution is unfair. The President made a statement on the public discussion of the Constitution in Batumi.

According to Giorgi Margvelashvili, the proportional system is envisaged by the amendments, but there is a 5% threshold and prohibition of creation of blocks that creates sense of injustice.

" We should shift to the proportional system and it is provided by this electoral system, but neither me, not many other people have an impression that this is a fair system . What is determination of fairness of elections. We, citizens of Georgia, fulfill the most important function, go to the polling station and choose a politician. Each of our votes is very valuable. This voice creates the government, taking into account our votes, we create democracy and look at what system is set up now. First- 5% of the electoral threshold , which is problematic for the opposition parties, the next step is to deny the blocks. When I listened to the speakers, it is unacceptable for them as well,"- said the President.

Giorgi Margvelashvili addressed the parliamentary majority and called them to ask the opinion of oppositional parties while creating the electoral system.
