Parliamentary Opposition reminds to government of attacks on independent media

MPs assess the Public Defender"s report. Before that, the ombudsman has responded to the MPs" questions. One of the main topics was the case of Rustavi2.
The parliamentary opposition reminded the government that the independent media had been attacked over years and now the process continues. The ruling party denies accusations.

"Strasbourg has not stated that we have violated the Articles of Convention. If you are not a lawyer, we remind you we have here a temporary measure. The fact that Strasbourg has found a violation of rights is a very big lie and please do not mislead the society, "said Sopho Kiladze, the Chairman of the Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee of the Parliament.

According to Irakli Abesadze, a member of faction Movement for Freedom- European Georgia, the Strasbourg Court has evaluated the government"s actions as a great risk.

"I would like to remind you a statement of the Strasbourg Court. It has prohibited the state from carrying out any action that might have caused the change of Rustavi 2"s editorial policy, "Abesadze said.
