Self-Government Reform - Opposition Announces Rallies

Ozurgeti is the first city where MPs supported the initiative of the Ministry of Infrastructure. However, before that the consideration of the ongoing self-government reform was a subject of the debate and controversy. In addition to the opposition, the civil sector protestsagainst the expected reform.

In Ozurgetithe topic was the reson of confrontation in the City Council hall and in the entrance of the council.

Despite the arguments from the opposition parties, the ruling team did not change their position and 28 deputies of the City Council satisfied the request of the Ministry of Infrastructure.

Besides Ozurgeti, NGO representatives protested the abolition of the status for self-governing cities in four more cities. The NGO sector calls on the president and urges him to announce the date of elections.

The Ministry of Infrastructure believes that by saving the budget funds, infrastructure projects will be financed in the local municipality. The Ministry plans to present its own initiative at the government session at the end of the month. In June, it will be submitted to the Parliament as a legislative proposal.

The consensus received from the 14 municipalities will be reflected in the project and then submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers.
