Moscow`s political goals - Russia wants to build high-speed motorway around Black Sea

Dmitry Medvedev is trying to revive the old Russian economic project. The Russian Prime Minister offered once again the Black Sea Economic Cooperation countries to construct a high-speed motorway around the Black Sea.

This idea has been percieved skeptically by BSEC`s other members over the years. Besides the economic difficulties of its implementation, everyone sees the political problem of the project. It is about the highway that starts from Istanbul, passes through Batumi and Poti, finally crossing Novorossiysk through Kerch and the occupied Crimea to Bulgaria. Ukrainecategorically opposes the Russian route . Kyiv offers an alternative route through Mariupol.

According to experts, the president of Ukraine, Poroshenko did not arrive in Istanbul for this reason.

Whether any kind of communications has taken place with the Georgian side in Istanbul and whether Moscow asks Tbilisi to lay the route of this highway via Abkhazia is unknown.

The Georgian Foreign Minister does not want to make any comments on official Tbilisi decision - whether to support Russian or Ukrainian route.

Experts believe that Moscow wants to build a railway just because of political interests. Russia started building this highway ahead of Sochi Olympic Games and the Kremlin is ready to allocate 80 billion rubles to build a Russian section.
