Vano Merabishvili may leave the prison before the New Year. According to the lawyer of the former Minister of Internal Affairs, Vano Merabishvili has already been informed about the possibility of beiing released before the scheduled time and has been told that he has the right to use this mechanism. Final decision will be taken by the Parole Commission..

The former prime minister has already served the term of imprisonment, after which early release mechanism is available, but the lawyer says that the case has a political component. According to him, Merabishvili`s detention and release are also a political process.

As Merabishvili"s lawyer Giorgi Chiviashvili says, the Commission should consider the issue automatically, without prisoner`s appeal.

"Now everything is up to the government, the Ministry of Justice. The Commission can consider the issue and release Merabishvili," - said Chiviashvili.

According to him, if the Commission refuses to release Vano Merabishvili, the decision will be automatically revised in 6 months.

"Of course, Vano Merabishvili is informed of all this, but he has not made any request. As far as I know, The Parole Commission meets once a month. They can discuss this issue any month,” - said Giorgi Chiviashvili.
