Armenian Parliament elected the new president

Armenia has a new president. The country"s parliament has elected the former Prime Minister and diplomat Armen Sargsyan with a secret ballot.

His candidacy was supported by 90 deputies.

Sarkissian was the only candidate for the presidency. His candidacy was named by the ruling coalition.

Armen Sarkissian will take over the office after the power of the incumbent president expires on April 9.

On the same day, a new constitution will enter into the force in Armenia.
