The Metropolitan Ioseb of Shemokmedi congratulates the Ukrainian Orthodox Church on receiving the tomos.
The Metropolitan"s publication was posted on the Diocese"s Facebook page.
"I think that Ukraine deserves to be an autocephalous church, for centuries it has struggled to receive independence and autocephaly, and their aspiration will strengthen the Christian Orthodox unity and give it greater authority," says Archbishop Ioseb.
The Patriarchate of Georgia has not responded to granting autocephaly for the Ukrainian Church yet. As the clergy of the high hierarchy say, before the congratulation, the Patriarchate should become familiar with the content of tomos.
President Salome Zourabichvili said that she could not take responsibility for congratulating the Ukrainian people with autocephaly.
The Prime Minister did not make any official announcement. Mamuka Bakhtadze avoided the question on the issue.
On January 4, Patriarch of Constantinople called upon the leaders of the world autocephalous churches to support the independence of the Ukrainian Church.
On January 5, the World Patriarch Bartholomew signed the tomos of the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church. The ceremony was held in St. George"s Church in Istanbul and was attended by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
