Head of the State Security Service of Georgia reporting to the Trust Group

The Parliamentary Trust Group heard the activity report for 2023 introduced by the Head of the State Security Service of Georgia, Grigol Liluashvili.

The report covered the security challenges of the country, the activities of the SSS in view of the prevention and neutralization of the threats, as well as the capacity-building measures.

“It was a productive discussion that we had in the Trust Group. The Head of the Service provided detailed information on various revelations of threats that our country encounters and the remedies undertaken by the Service in view of the early detection, prevention of damage and neutralization of threats. We heard information about the security milieu in the occupied regions, as well as the counter-intelligence and counter-terrorist activity of the Service and the institutional development thereof. Certain spheres were identified that require the improvement of the legal basis as expedient for further enhancement of the national security mechanisms. The Security Service operates in a due and effective manner and is entitled to high appraisal. National security is in the hands of reliable and merited professionals. None of the persons or organizations that pose direct or indirect threats to our country and against our citizens and their interests are left un-scrutinized. We, the lawmakers, will spare no effort to ensure effective oversight of the Service and, on the other hand, to provide all necessary assistance and support it needs”, - said Irakli Beraia, Chairman of the Defense and Security Committee, the Chair of the Trust Group.

The sitting was attended by the First Deputy Head and the officials of the SSS, as well as the Trust group members – majority MPs Anri Okhanashvili and Alexander Tabatadze, and the opposition MP, Temur Janashia.
