Georgian people expected a response whether or not the sanctioning of judges was a mistake of the former US Ambassador to Georgia or NGOs - Papuashvili

The Georgian people expected a response whether or not the sanctioning of judges was a mistake of the former US Ambassador to Georgia or NGOs. Such a statement made today the Speaker of the Parliament.

“These unjust sanctions gave the opposition and related NGOs a pretext to attack the judiciary and carry out a discredit campaign. As for judge Chkhikvadze, it was confirmed that this sanction was unjust, groundless, and therefore, I think that it is part of the partnership relationship, when such a thing is confirmed by the higher court instance, there should be an appropriate reflection, an adequate response and the only adequate response, of course, would be to list this sanction.

Unfortunately, a week has passed since we received the communication from the Strasbourg court, which ultimately confirmed that there were no violations in the case of Nika Gvaramia and that talk of political motivations was absolute speculation, and we have not yet heard any reaction. We have not heard any reaction from none of the embassies that two years ago participated in the discrediting campaign against Georgian justice. We remind you of the statements of the diplomats at that time, which pointed directly to political motivations, and among them, you remember that the employees of one of the embassies directly demanded a report from the Georgian judge in violation of the constitution and all the basic principles of partnership relations in general.

Therefore, of course, the Georgian people are now expecting an explanation, in due time, what was this - was it the Ambassador’s mistake, the mistake of the embassy staff, any intentional misleading of the embassy staff or NGOs funded by the Embassy, in general, what were we dealing with, we expect the explanations and, of course, the result, and the result is the only one - the removal of the unjust sanction for the citizens of Georgia”, - said Shalva Papuashvili.
